The Bamboos

Picture
Melbourne outfit The Bamboos have just released their sixth album, Fever in the Road. Lex caught up with main man Lance Ferguson (an accomplished DJ, producer and musician) for a quick chat about the music he's currently enjoying.

MadfaMusic: Congratulations on the release of Fever In The Road!

MadfaMusic: Tell me about an album in your collection that you feel is timeless, ie. one you’ve had for a long time but never get sick of, or an album that is relatively new that you think you’ll still be listening to in 10 or 20 years. What is it about the album that gives it that timeless quality?

Lance: I feel like Tame Impala's Lonerism will be an album I would put on in 10-20 years. No doubt there would be nostalgic aspects to playing it then as it has been connected with a whole time of my life now and listened to intensely. Aside from that I feel like Kevin Parker has crafted an at once timeless and cutting edge record (the ultimate trick), which evokes a whole world of past music while pushing things directly into the future as well. I love his through-composed Pop songs and that he plays all of the instruments himself. Killer drum sounds!!!! This is a visionary album and Tame Impala are one of my favourite groups.

MadfaMusic: What’s the best live show you’ve seen in the last 12 months? What was it about the show that made it special?

Lance: Lorde at Splendour In The Grass was a definite highlight. I was watching from side of stage and all hype and post-gig analysis aside there was a tangible energy in the 10,000-strong crowd that meant something special was going down. They say this one show broke her in Australia. James Blake was also a stand-out on that night too.
This playlist contains Tame Impala's Lonerism, the Cults album Static & Jon Hopkins' Immunity.

MadfaMusic: What albums or tracks have you been enjoying of late?

Lance: I really love the new album from Cults called 'Static'. It's the perfect combination of tough drums, Wall-Of-Sound Pop production and Doowop-meets-Shoegaze songwriting. Also I really love Jon Hopkins 'Immunity' album for it's crazy production and evocative soundscapes.

MadfaMusic: You guys will be touring Fever In The Road around the country over the next few weeks. What music do you think you’ll be listening to on tour? Are there particular albums or artists that the band bonds over or listens to together?

Lance: Typically The Bamboos will bond in the tour van over some of the most truly offensive 80'/90's Pop music ever recorded. Newcomers have been shot down in flames as their favourite Jazz album is violently ejected to make way for the likes of Inner Circle – 'Sweat (A lalalala Long)' or Haddaway - 'What Is Love?'. I cannot see this trend changing anytime soon.
MadfaMusic: What are your favourite music videos?

Lance: 1. John Hopkins – Open Eye Signal
2. Aha – Take On Me
3. Feist – I Feel It All
4. The Cure – Close To Me
5. Gold Panda - Marriage

MadfaMusic: What’s a question you’ve always wanted to be asked in an interview that hasn’t come up yet?

Lance: Please talk us through your collections of 1950's Horror comics and Diecast WW2 aircraft.

Fever In The Road is out now.
