Now Playing - October 2013

On this page you'll find a selection of the music we're enjoying in October! If we've tweeted about it during the month then you'll find it below.

More tracks will be added to this page throughout October so come back often!

MadfaMusic Oct 2013 Playlist from MadfaMusic on 8tracks Radio.

The 8tracks playlist above will give you most of the same content as the Spotify playlist above it (and the YouTube playlist in the top right of this page). We've put the 8tracks playlist in reverse order though, so the most tracks added most recently to the playlist are up first.

Stream...

Unknown Mortal Orchestra are releasing a 5 track EP containing acoustic versions of 3 tracks from their excellent release II (the first ever MadfaMusic feature album, back in April), plus covers of a Beck track and a Dirty Projectors track. Stream it here, courtesy of The Fly.

Stream Courtney Barnett's Double EP: A Sea of Split Peas here via her bandcamp page. You can purchase via this page too.

Stream the new King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard LP Float Along - Fill Your Lungs here courtesy of themusic.com.au

Stream Polica's new album Shulamith here courtesy of NPR.

You can listen to (and buy) the new album by Kes here. It's called Duets and features (yep, you guessed it) duets with the likes of Grand Salvo, Biddy Connor, Laura Jean, Oliver Mann and many more.

Stream Jordie Lane's new EP Not Built To Last here courtesy of themusic.com.au

You can listen to the new Cass McCombs album here courtesy of The Guardian. We recommend you do because it's great!

You can stream the new World's End Press album here courtesy of Pedestrian TV. We're enjoying their track 'Deadbeat Sweetheart' - listen via the Spotify, YouTube or 8tracks playlists above.

Stream the new Glasser (aka Cameron Mesirow) album Interiors here.

We're really enjoying the self titled release from Mark Kozelek and Desertshore. We LOVE Kozelek's work under the Sun Kil Moon moniker and this album is just as beautiful. Listen to "Hey You Bastard I'm Still Here" via the YouTube, 8tracks or Spotify playlists at the top of this page.

We're also pretty damn excited about the forthcoming Tobias Hengeveld release. Listen to "Make a Noise" from his last LP via the 8tracks and Spotify playlists plus that track and newie "Alabaster" via the YouTube playlist at the top of this page. Info about his crowdfunding campaign are on our Support A Good Cause page.

We're also loving the new Jimmy Tait track "All My Friends" and "Broken Arrows" from the forthcoming Machine Translations album.
The October YouTube, Spotify and 8tracks playlists on this page will give you most of the same content, so choose the format that works best for you.

"Make Up Your Mind" is the lead single from Sydney outfit Straight Arrows' second LP.

Broods are NZ brother-sister duo, Georgia and Caleb Nott. Bridges is their first single.

Ron Peno was the frontman of acclaimed Aussie icons, Died Pretty. He's also one half of The Darling Downs (the other half being Kim Salmon). His band, The Superstitions, features Cam Butler (guitar), Tim Deane (piano, organ, keys), Andy Papadopoulos (bass) and Mark Dawson (drums). The new album Anywhere and Everything is Bright was released on October 25 through Rocket.

The album will be launched in Melbourne over three nights at Fitzroy's Labour in Vain, on Friday 15th, Saturday 16th and Sunday 17th November.

M.I.A.'s new track "Y.A.L.A" is from her forthcoming album Matangi. A play on the commonly used acronym YOLO ("you only live once") the song title stands for "you always live again". After many delays, the album finally has an Australian release date and is due out 4 Nov.

Sufjan Stevens recently made the above track "Take Me" available via his blog and described it as a "Sloppy lo-fi demo I found on an old hard drive. It don’t go nowhere so don’t expect nothing. Love don’t go nowhere so don’t expect nothing. Quadruple negative, yo. Stay Positive."

The Bill Callahan album Dream River was released in September through Spunk Records. It's a stunning album - have a listen to "The Sing" above and a live version of "Small Plane", courtesy of NPR to the right.
We've also added "Spring" to the MadfaMusic Oct 2013 8tracks playlist which you can access further up this page.

Aydin James Sayar is an 18 year old Melburnian, and we like this track and its Unknown Mortal Orchestra-esque vibe.

The Murlocs are a five-piece originating from the Geelong area. We brought you their awesome track "Rattle The Chain" via our July Now Playing page. "Space Cadet" is their new single, and an album is expected before the end of the year.
"I'm The Man That Will Find You" comes from New Zealander Connan Mockasin's album Caramel, which is due out on 4 November.
Brisbane's Per Purpose are getting ready to release their debut LP "Circle the Stains" through Bedroom Suck on October 21st.
"This Lonely Morning" is the new single from LA's Best Coast. We guarantee that if you listen to this more than once it will stay with you all day! Stream the Fade Away EP here.

Boomgates and New Zealand's The Bats will release a split 7" on 1 November as part of Melbourne Music Week. The release will be a collaboration between Mistletone and Bedroom Suck Records.

Sun Kil Moon is Mark Kozelek, formerly of the Red House Painters. "Richard Ramirez Died Today Of Natural Causes" is from the forthcoming Sun Kil Moon album Benji due in February 2014. We're massive fans of the 2012 Sun Kil Moon album Among the Leaves to the point that we've included it on our Timeless Albums page, predicting that we'll still be loving it in another couple of decades! Listen to it here.
We're digging this Flight Facilities remix of Jagwar Ma's 'Come Save Me'. Their album, Howlin' was the MadfaMusic feature album at the start of July. Listen here.

The track above comes from Canadian label Arts and Crafts' 10th anniversary compilation for which they paired up artists to record together. "Homage" is a collaboration between Feist and Taylor Kirk from Timber Timbre.

Timber Timbre and Feist also collaborated on a cover of Peter Gabriel's "Don't Give Up" for Gabriel's album project And I'll Scratch Yours. It follows his 2010 release Scratch My Back on which he covered tracks by other artists, and they've each returned the favour to create And I'll Scratch Yours. A couple were unable to submit a track for the album, so Gabriel asked some artists whose songs he hadn't covered to join the project, and the Feist/Timber Timbre track is one of the resulting recordings. Other artists on the album include Bon Iver, David Byrne, Regina Spektor, Lou Reed, Arcade Fire & Brian Eno.

The Ape features Tex Perkins, Raul Sanchez, Gus Agars and Pat Bourke. We've brought you the single over the last few months but their self titled album has now been released (on 4 Oct). They're about to embark on an East Coast tour. You can view the dates here.

'Hands' is Melbourne soul outfit Saskwatch's new single.  They'll do an east coast tour during November and December. Check the dates here.

"Needle In The Hay" is an unofficial single from Sally Seltmann's forthcoming LP, due out in early 2014. Of the track she says “It’s about losing yourself, following your heart, and above all – LOVE!”
'Eurozone' comes from the forthcoming album by Finland's Shine 2009. It's called Our Nation and you can stream it here courtesy of Dazed Digital.
Recently released from prison (where she served 3 months for tax evasion), Lauryn Hill has released "Consumerism".
