Now Playing - December 2013

On this page you'll find a selection of the music we're enjoying in December!

More tracks will be added to this page throughout the month so come back often!
The 8tracks playlist below will give you most of the same content as the Spotify playlist above (and the YouTube playlist in the top right of this page) so choose the format that works best for you. The 8tracks playlist has the tracks in reverse order though, so the newest additions to the playlist are up first!

Other music we're loving...

We recently reviewed Queenscliff Music Festival & we're loving a bunch of artists we saw that weekend. Check out tracks by Melody Pool, Sticky Fingers, Northeast Party House, The Brow Horn Orchstra, Pez, Eagle and the Worm and more here.

"Television Screens" is from the forthcoming Hello Satellites album 84000, due early 2014.

"Big Wheel" is the new single from Cass McCombs' album Big Wheel and Others. It was our feature album in October. Check it out here. He's scheduled to do a stack of European shows in January before heading to Australia to perform at Laneway Festival plus two sideshows: Thursday 30 January at Northcote Social Club in Melbourne and Thursday 6 February at Oxford Art Factory in Sydney. Pick up a free download of a live version of the new single and two other tracks here.

"Give It Up" is the new single for Melbourne outfit HTRK.

Lorde has just released "No Better", despite it being recorded some time ago. It's a track that didn't make the cut for Pure Heroine but one that she wanted to release before delivering new material. This month she also released the video for new single "Team".

"Birth In Reverse" comes from the self titled album from St Vincent (aka Annie Clark) due in February. If you're a St Vincent fan, read our review of the Mebourne David Byrne and St Vincent show in January here.

The Necks (Chris Abrahams, Lloyd Swanton and Tony Buck) have delivered yet another stunning album containing just one track (this one clocks in at 1hour and 8minutes). It's called Open and you can hear it in full above. The album is out now. Check out a review of it here courtesy of Mess & Noise. The band will embark on a national tour in February.

"Biggy" is the second single from Warpaint's self titled album which is due early 2014.

Philadelphia's The War on Drugs will be back in Australia over summer. Check the dates here. "Red Eyes" comes from their new LP Lost in the Dream, due out in March 2014.

Jesse Davidsone is a 17 year old from Adelaide and this track is from his forthcoming EP.

Neil Young's Live at the Cellar Door release is due out on Friday 6 December. It contains archival recordings from his solo shows in late 1970 in Washington DC. Listen to "Tell Me Why" from it above.

"Sometimes" features guest vocals from Caroline Kennedy-McCracken and comes from Mick Turner's new album Don't Tell The Driver.

The recording above is of Chet Faker playing "I'm Into You" on a Steinway, live in New York in November.

We rather like the melodic beats above by Jublet.

Lupa is the moniker adopted by 15 year old Sydney musician Imogen Jones.

Melbourne outfit Heads of Charm released "Check Check Check" back in August. Have a listen. We love this track!

Melbourne label Milk Records have released this sampler, just in time for the silly season. It contains "Avant Gardener" by Courtney Barnett, "Toothless Tiger" by Jen Cloher, "Dark Eyes" by Fraser A Gorman, "Easier" by Royston Vasie, and "Skinny White Girl" by The Finks. If you're in Melbourne, you can catch all of these acts and The Saturday Knights at the Milk Records xmas party at the Tote in Collingwood, Sunday 22 December from 3pm.
