2014 in Review with Milwaukee Banks

Melbourne future rap duo Milwaukee Banks consists of rapper Dyl Thomas and producer Edo. This year they've been endorsed by music industry tastemakers far and wide, playing shows for Noisey, Triple R, Melbourne Music Week and BIGSOUND to name a few. They followed the release of their debut EP "Rose Water" in June this year with a remixes EP in October which saw LUCIANBLOMKAMP, friendships, Andrei Eremin, RaRa and SertOne rework the tracks from "Rose Water". They've now released two new tracks, "Van Gogh" (produced by Andrei Eremin) and "Monitor" (produced by Rat & Co).

As 2014 draws to a close, we asked Edo about his musical highlights of the past year.

Albums

I had a handful of album highlights this year. In a time where people seem to rarely take the time to listen to a full album, I still enjoy listening to a full LP. Some of the records I kept spinning were:

The Harpoons – Falling For You
I enjoyed the early singles they released but the album sat on my to-do list for ages, but I finally listened to the whole album and it’s really great. I was really into the synth sounds they use, and the way they write their songs. I bought the vinyl and play it in the house all the time when I’m chilling at home.

FKA Twigs – LP1
I listened to this flat out during the end of this year. One of the most exciting artists to break out this year and one of my favourite albums of 2014.

Performances

We were lucky enough to go to BIGSOUND this year, which in itself was a musical highlight, but I got to catch some really great live performances while I was there. I really enjoyed the sets from D.D Dumbo, Klo, LUCIANBLOMKAMP, Lower Spectrum and Oscar Key Sung.

RaRa’s live performance in the RRR performance space was also a highlight from 2014. Those dudes kill it live, so much raw energy!

Personal highlight track of 2014

Ara Koufax – Converge
This electronic gem is my favorite track of 2014. I find myself going back to stream it time and time again. No doubt you’ll hear more of them in 2015.
