I love a good list, even when they're not mine, they can be fun to trawl through for a number of reasons. This is a good time for lists, and I particularly like the way Consequence Of Sound set theirs up like an advent calendar. Each day you can open a new one and find yourself quietly surprised, nodding in agreement or thoroughly annoyed and punchy.
How about the 50 top whatever the hell we think people might like to click on list of 2014. Shit yes.
I like the "Albums Mentioned on Most Top 10 Lists - 2014" on Metacritic. I also love a "....So Far" ending to a list like "The 50 Best Music Videos of the Decade So Far" on Pitchfork. Whether it's a top 20, a top 30 or a top 50, there will be at least one thing listed that makes you wonder how high the the reviewer was when they chose it.

1 December 2014Each time I've uttered the date of late, I've felt a mild panic. Fortunately I only have a few Xmas presents to buy, but time is running low so I've dipped into some music related gift lists to save myself time, and in turn, maybe save you some time as well. These lists are always a bit of a laff but you can find some pretty nerdy and cool stuff too. These definitely caught my attention:
This is the Subpac Tactile Bass System. I'll take one for every seat in the house, car and office thanks. It could probably be sold at Sexyland too. More bass! Hoo boy. If you love vinyl and love being organised....AND I REALLY DO, this is a pretty awesome gift. I hope Mum & Dad are reading this. And finally, I'm a big fan of scent and music so this is pretty interesting. Why not try and smell like music? Choose from Bass, Drone or Noise or all three in a box set. Smell ya later. x |

Patti Smith and David Lynch walk into a room....
This is an amazing piece written by Lewis Walsh from The Love Junkies. Lewis has just come out as transgender. "I Don't know If I'm A Boy Or Girl, But That's Ok, Right?" is something everyone should read because it's fucking awesome.
It seems Johnny Jewel has been a busy guy.
Listen to what Chromatics are up to. Dreamy.

Ariel Pink's new album pom pom lands this week and there's a stack of clickbait around. Mostly fun, sometimes sad, mildly annoying and ultimately intriguing.
Last week I was reminded by Tyler, the Creator that sometimes music can move you in ways that you don't always expect.
This week he reminded me that he can be a totally die hard fanboy just like everyone else and that sometimes celebrities really do give a shit about their fans.

His Purpleness broke with the usual "feature band performs 2 tracks" gig on Saturday Night Live, playing an 8 minute set on the weekend. Showcasing tracks form his latest releases Plectrumelectrum and Art Official Age, Prince played Clouds, Plectrum Electrum, Marz and Another Love. Those glasses have got to go.
Got a little soft spot for She & Him so good to know their covers album "Classics" is heading our way in December. Here they are performing their cover of Dusty Springfield's "Stay Awhile" on Fallon. Also due out in December for you M. Ward fans, is a reissue of 2005's Transistor Radio which will contain four unreleased tracks.

Holy shit, Sleater Kinney are set to release their seven-LP collection as a vinyl box set. The coloured vinyl set of Start Together is already sold out, so a black vinyl set is already up for pre-order via Sub Pop Records. It also features a brand new 7" called Bury Our Friends which you can have a listen to here.
....and thanks to this flyer, it also looks like their reunion album No Cities To Love will drop on the 20th January.

Grimes has written a pretty cool piece about being a music boss for the next Rookie Magazine, due 21st October. Here's an excerpt.
Jake Stone from Bluejuice addresses some "meatheads". Wayne Coyne's fruity behaviour aside, this Flaming Lips release will be an interesting listen. |

I really hope this happens.
Ouch, but let's face it, it could have been so much worse. Yep, Mac DeMarco's Mum Agnes is guest MC for Laneway Festival. I hope she brings pupcakes. |

Did you hear the one about when Karen O and Julian Casablancas walked into a bar....
Maybe you're a bit more of a Morrissey fan? You can sleep on him you know? If you love Nick Offernan and Jeff Tweedy, you'll probably love this: |

Karen O releases her gorgeously minimalist and distorted Crush Songs. "...They are the soundtrack to what was an ever continuing LOVE CRUSADE. I hope they keep you company on yours." Stream Crush Songs here, courtesy of NPR. |

Why bother going to a Mark Kozolek/Sun Kil Moon gig if all you wanna do is chat during his set? I reckon I'm with Mark on this one.
Courtney Barnett and the Courtney Barnetts do a sweet ass cover of "Cannonball" by The Breeders: |
1st September 2014

The Boss has written a children's book.
Vale Jay Curley.
Watching the Kate Bush doco last week has me yearning for a ticket to one of her 22 shows in London. Better still, a tour of Australia.
She hasn't performed on stage for 35 years! No Wuthering Heights or Babooshka though. Here's the Guardian's review.

Belle and Sebastian, anyone?
Sadly, The Knife are no more.
Looking forward to watching this documentary. The leotards, the crimped hair, interpretive dance and the unmistakable voice of Kate Bush. Featuring interviews with Peter Gabriel, Tricky, St Vincent, Steve Coogan, Bat For Lashes and loads of others.

This is just nuts....and there's a bit more to come yet. I just love you Aunty Meredith.
Check out the Meredith lineup here. A world without community radio frightens the shit out of me for reasons too numerous to mention. Subscribe and support local and vocal, truly independent radio whenever you can. Here might be a good place to start. |
Revisit Fee B-Squared's feature on the Phosphorescent album Muchacho de Lujo.

I interviewed director Florian Habicht last week and asked him about this upcoming karaoke contest.
Jarvis Cocker & Florian Habicht judge a Pulp karaoke contest in NYC after the Pulp doco Pulp: Life, Death & Supermarkets was shown. A 9 year old wins, but I bet you can't guess which song he chose. Watch it here. Oh how I lol'd. Here's NME's 100 Most Influential Artists. Discuss. Local artist Bjenny Montero (Montero, Early Woman) has an exhibition on until the 30th August. Definitely worth checking out. |
4th August 2014
Cute moment unfolds at a recent Arcade Fire gig during one of my favourite songs. The date for Sugar Mountain Festival has been announced. Past Sugar Mountain guests Hunx And His Punx can make anyone feel fruity but now you can also wrap yourself up in this. |

"These Aren't the Droids" by Neko Case, Ellie Kemper and Kelly Hogan. The announcement that The War On Drugs will play Meredith this year! Courtney Barnett's new track "Pickles From The Jar" and tour announcement. |
