Lex's favourite new release

The new Sleater Kinney album No Cities To Love

PictureSleater Kinney image courtesy of ew.com
No Cities To Love is the first release from Olympia, WA punk trio Sleater Kinney in almost ten years. Born of the 90s riot grrrl scene, fans were devastated when the band announced an indefinite hiatus in 2006.
On No Cities To Love guitarists/vocalists Corin Tucker and Carrie Brownstein, and drummer Janet Weiss sound better than ever, so whether you're heralding the return of one of your favourite bands or hearing them for the first time, if you love punk and raw rock and roll, this album is definitely one to check out.

Catch up with Lex's favourite new releases from previous weeks here, including Justin Townes Earle, Pond, Lia Mice, Trust Punks, Citizen Kay, Parquet Courts, Jack Ladder & The Dreamlanders, Lanie Lane, My Brightest Diamond, Perfume Genius, Bored Nothing & more.

The new D'Angelo and The Vanguard album Black Messiah

PictureD'Angelo image courtesy of grist.org
Black Messiah marks the first new material from multi-instrumentalist R'n'B/soul artist D'Angelo since the release of his 2000 album Voodoo. In the intervening years he's appeared on albums by Q-Tip and Snoop Dogg and learned the guitar.
Despite the album dropping just before Christmas, the Richmond, Virginia born artist's third release still managed to make many "Best Of 2014" lists.
Highlights: "Back to the Future (Part 1)", "Sugah Daddy" and "Really Love".

D'Angelo will tour Europe during February and March. Details here.
Catch up with our Recommended Listening from previous weeks here, including recent albums by Twerps, Peter Bibby, Belle and Sebastian, Richard In Your Mind, Les Sins, Thurston Moore, SBTRKT, Augie March, Andras and Oscar and loads more.
